A French journalist who'd covered the Afghan war is assassinated and a child brutally maimed over evidence of U.S. weapons provided to the Middle East amounting to billions of dollars paid for by heroin. Eight years later, in 1998, the journalist's young American widow comes to Pakistan in a search for the truth, only to find herself trapped in a dangerous world of nuclear tests, terrorist attacks, covert intelligence operations, corporate power chess, attempted assassinations, and murder. And also finds that she is, once again, in love. What emerges is a rich and sensitive exploration of the Islamic culture of today as it collides with the West. "The Black Silk Road" gives terrorism a human face, treating the terrorism perpetrated by the Islamic East, in as honest, real, and even-handed manner, as the terrorism of the corporate, covert-intelligence-driven, militarized West.

I just finished reading this wonderful spy thriller. In The Black Silk Road Janet Wise has combined romance and political intrigue to create an exciting story containing all of life's essential elements: love, loss, fear, hate, faith in humankind, trust, and resignation. She has woven into her novel well researched details about U.S policies in the Middle East and South and Central Asia in the years prior to and leading up to 2001 in its pursuit of oil and regional hegemony, and has highlighted with revealing precision the sinister interplay between the region's power brokers. She focuses her story on Pakistan's ISI, the CIA and Al Queda, taking us on an unforgettable journey into the dark side of world politics. It's a well written, sophisticated, and gripping novel which I highly recommend.Product details

Black Silk Road Janet Wise 9788172237639 Books Reviews
This book has some espionage, some romance, some twists, all enough to keep me interested all the way through. I recommend it.
The Black Silk Road is a combination spy thriller and smart romance story. The principal characters are all enmeshed in the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and South Asia circa 1998 - 2001. Some work for the U. S Gvernment, some for Pakistan, and some are Taliban / Al Queda fighters. One of the major plot themes are the well documented links between the U. S. Central Intellegence Agency, Al Queda and the Pakistani ISI. The novel is very well written, but is seemingly too contreversial to be published in the U. S. It is a very good and exciting read. I highly reccomend it.Black Silk Road
I just finished reading Black Silk Road and found it full of everything you'd want in a good read. It had romance, mystery, culture clash. You name it it was there. I would read for awhile and when I put it down it wasn't long before I was back to reading again. It's left you feeling you didn't want it to end. I especially liked that it was a blend of the Middle East and our government and of course all the people involved and their life journey. I would highly recommend the book.
